The New York Mets are fighting to their playoff lives. They currently are tied with the San Francisco Giants for the top wild card spot in the National League, with the St. Louis Cardinals a mere two games behind.
Saturday night, Curtis Granderson did his part — and then some in — in helping the Mets keep as much distance as they can.
First, Granderson tied the game in the bottom of the 11th with this solo shot:

Then, Granderson hit another solo shot for a walk-off victory for the Mets:

That’s a pretty dang good night for the Mets outfielder. It was so good, he made a bit of history in the process:
Curtis Granderson becomes the first Met in franchise history to hit a game tying homerun and walk off homerun in extra innings.

According to Twitter user @NYMStats, the Mets set a new franchise record for the most home runs in a season with 201, and are now 10 games over .500 for the first time this season. These are games the Mets have to win, when you consider the competition. The Twins are the worst team in the league, and losses to them at this time of year would be brutal. So, good on Granderson.
Oh, and as Mets ace Noah Syndergaard said, Granderson’s homer allowed the 43-year-old Bartolo Colon to get to bed in time!
I told Grandy it was past Bartolo’s bedtime and then that happened….what a teammate! #LGM — Noah Syndergaard (@Noahsyndergaard) September 18, 2016
