Wendy’s has been having quite the year on Twitter. Wendy’s received plenty of praise for how they responded to one fan’s pursuit of a year’s supply of free chicken nuggets that resulted in a new Twitter record for most retweets. But on Wednesday, Wendy’s got in a Twitter battle with an unlikely yet worthy combatant – the Oakland Athletics.

It all started innocently enough with Wendy’s resorting to making a joke about the Golden State Warriors blowing a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals last summer in response to a tweet about Steph Curry reportedly being spotted at a Wendy’s.

That seems like a weird time to drop a “blew a 3-1 lead joke” when it comes off as free advertising for Wendy’s involving one of the top stars in the NBA. But at the risk of alienating fans from California, they went with it and the fun was just about to begin.

When one Bay Area sports fan asked a hypothetical question on Twitter about who would win a Twitter battle between Wendy’s and the social media savvy Oakland A’s, the A’s took the first jab.

But Wendy’s responded as they were bound to do.

A low blow for sure, but the A’s were sitting at 26-32 and in last place in the AL West at the time of the impromptu Twitter battle.

But this battle was not over yet. The A’s mocked the quality of food one would get from Wendy’s…

It is worth noting here this one can come back at the A’s a bit, as they had yielded 299 runs so far in 2017, the most runs allowed in the American League and third most allowed in all of baseball

This did not go unnoticed by the Wendy’s social media team.

As the Twitter battle was ongoing, so too was the A’s afternoon game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Things really went off the rails from there.

As fate would have it, the A’s did come back to tie the game up as the online feud brewed, and the two Twitter accounts decided to hug it out and move on.

At least one person on Twitter managed to get a score update by following the back-and-forth.

You might want to make sure you are following Wendy’s on Twitter, because you just never know what kind of trouble and entertainment you will stumble upon.
