Saturday was a nice day for robbing home runs in the majors.

First, AL MVP candidate Mookie Betts robbed Leonys Martin of a homer in the Red Sox-Tigers game.

And late on Saturday night in Seattle, White Sox left fielder Leury Garcia robbed the Mariners’ Mitch Haniger of a two-run homer in the ninth to preserve Chicago’s shutout.

Garcia is a very bouncy 5’8″:

Ridiculous catch.

That also summarizes how things are going for the Mariners these days.

Seattle was the most stunning excellent team in the first half of the season, leaving the Fourth of July with a 55-31 record and an eight-game lead over the Oakland A’s in the A’s Wild Card race. After Saturday night’s loss, the Mariners are now 59-40 and only have a three-game Wild Card lead over the red-hot A’s. The Mariners even have a negative run differential now, at -5.
