The New York Yankees have some very big decisions to make this off-season. Chief among them is re-signing Aaron Judge following his epic home-run chase and MVP-caliber season. In the meantime, however, it appears that the franchise is shoring up its front office and coaching staff first.

Coming off the heels of being swept out of the American League Championship Series by the Houston Astros, there have been a lot of discussions around whether or not manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman should return to the organization. However, any notion of them getting the boot seems to have been squashed by owner Hal Steinbrenner.

According to SNY insider Andy Martino, the expectation is that Boone and Cashman will return for the 2023 MLB season.

“Cashman’s contract is up, of course, and most in the organization believe that Hal Steinbrenner will ask him back and that Cashman will accept,” writes Martino. “If Cashman returns, Boone — finishing up the first year of three in his current deal — is expected to come back, too.

The only way it seems that this could go sideways for either of them is if fan vitriol becomes so toxic that Steinbrenner decides he must initiate a GM change that no one believes he wants to make.”

Given many of the reactions to that news from Yankees fans and others in the MLB world, that vitriol could come back to bite Steinbrenner, especially if the team doesn’t re-sign Judge, no matter the cost.
