Carlos Rodón has not gotten a chance to debut for the New York Yankees officially. We learned on Thursday that the prized free-agent acquisition would have to wait a bit longer.

The team reinstated slugger Giancarlo Stanton, former MVP third baseman Josh Donaldson, and right-hander Tommy Kahnle. But the corresponding move was tough, as the Yankees shelved Rodón on the 60-day injured list. The team announced the move, along with the others, in a tweet that gained attention on Thursday.

Rodón put together a great 2022 with the San Francisco Giants but has been unable to reel that off into anything (except his huge paycheck). With the Giants in 2022, as an NL All-Star selection, he went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA in 178 innings pitched. He threw 237 strikeouts – a career-high – and just 52 walks. Rodón also led all of MLB with a K/9 of 12.0 and a FIP of 2.25. He finished sixth in Cy Young voting after finishing 5th in AL Cy Young voting in 2021.

The positive news for Carlos Rodón is that this move was made in large to get Tommy Kahnle back on the 40-man roster. So, somebody has to be moved off to the IL. His status and return timetable are still pretty unknown as he suffers from injuries to his back and forearm that have nagged.

Hopefully, he can return to the mound in good health soon.
