The New York Yankees are missing two key cogs in their major league lineup, with both star third baseman Josh Donaldson and star designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on rehab stints in Double-A. They paired with a number of the top prospects in the Yankees’ organization to build an unfair lineup on paper for Tuesday night’s game.
New York has a number of their top prospects playing for the Somerset Patriots, their Double-A affiliate.
This includes shortstop Trey Sweeney, center fielder Jasson Dominguez, catcher Austin Wells, and left fielder Everson Pereira. All four of them joined Donaldson and Stanton in their matchup against the Portland Sea Dogs.

On paper, this game looked like a complete mismatch in favor of the Somerset Patriots. However, baseball is a very unpredictable game and this great lineup in theory did not perform on Tuesday night.

Stanton and Donaldson were shut down by the pitching of the Sea Dogs, going just 1-7 in their at-bats. They ultimately fell 3-1 in the game.
To be fair, it was Stanton’s first game with the team as he starts his rehab stint to return to the Yankees’ major league roster, so there is definitely some rust that needs to be knocked off.
Both Stanton and Donaldson aren’t expected to be in the minors too long, but Yankees fans will certainly hope that they can be better once they do make the jump back to the MLB.
