Yankee Stadium Manchester tribute

The sports world has offered thoughts and support to victims of Monday night’s bombing attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, with stars like Manchester City’s Yaya Touré stepping forward with donations, and that support has crossed the Atlantic. One of the more interesting stateside examples comes from the New York Yankees, who played the United Kingdom’s national anthem “God Save The Queen” before playing the U.S. national anthem ahead of their game against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night. Here’s video, from NJ.com’s Randy Miller:

It’s rare to hear “God Save The Queen” on U.S. soil, but it’s certainly appropriate to show support for victims of that tragedy. The scoreboard tribute with a solitary candle feels about right, too, as does the applause from the fans at the end. Well done by the Yankees.
