After the All-Star break, most would assume that most players around the league would be ready to return and energetic in the first game of the second half of the season for most teams on Friday night. However, for New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., this was quite clearly not the case.

Chisholm Jr. didn’t get the break that some of his teammates got in the All-Star break, taking part in both the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game earlier this week. And perhaps some of those responsibilities played a part in what was quite clearly some subpar effort in Friday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

Things went badly for the Yankees pretty much from the very start of Friday’s game, trailing 7-0 by the end of the fourth inning. And in the sixth inning, it was clear that Chisholm Jr. in particular was either not interested in putting in much effort, or perhaps too tired to do so.

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Braves pitcher Spencer Strider forced Chisholm Jr. to roll over to second base to end the inning. And Chisholm Jr. had no intention of putting in much of an effort to beat out the play at first, jogging out of the batter’s box and easily getting thrown out.

To be fair to Chisholm, even if he was running as hard as possible out of the box, he was never beating the throw to first base. But the optics of this kind of effort obviously don’t look great in the first game back from the All-Star break.

As you may expect, Yankees fans were far from thrilled with the kind of effort that Chisholm showed in Friday’s game.

Only time will tell whether this is a sign of things to come for Yankees fans in the second half of the season. But obviously, Friday’s game was about as rough of a start to the second half to the season as the Yankees could have, falling in the game 7-3.
