Hey, as you may have heard, Conor McGregor might be boxing Floyd Mayweather. I know that’s hard to believe, but some people are already very excited for it to happen.

Reportedly, the UFC side of the deal is done, whatever that means, which just leaves the entire process of negotiating the fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, which kind of sounds like a big deal, and makes it seem like perhaps the fight isn’t as close as the sides would have us believe.

However!

It’s been talked about this long, how in the world could it not happen? (Aside from, you know, the flightiness of the fight game.) Conor McGregor is at least putting up appearances of taking the possibility seriously, as he tweeted this after some ring work:

I don’t particularly like Conor McGregor, I definitely don’t like Floyd Mayweather, and I don’t really care for UFC or boxing. They’re fine. But I really want to see this happen, solely to satisfy the “What if?” curiosity involved.

And, also, because it’s another chance to watch someone punch Floyd Mayweather in the face, and as McGregor has very little to lose, it’s hard to imagine him not trying to punch Floyd in the face repeatedly.

At this point the only thing remaining is the money, and it feels like it really could be a massive pay-per-view haul if done correctly. As that’s what both guys are really interested in, hopefully it comes to fruition at some point.
