For a glorious moment or two, it looked like there was a sliver of hope that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor might actually fight each other. McGregor said he had interest in this fight a month ago, which sparked rumors and hope that it might actually happen one day. Now, those dreams are dashed before the hype could even reach a noticeable level.

“I tried to make the fight happen between me and Conor McGregor…we wasn’t able to make the fight happen, so we must move on.”

Money followed up that comments with one that is not surprising when it comes out of his mouth.

“I feel honored to be the biggest name in MMA and in boxing and I don’t even compete no more.”

If Mayweather would have provided some of the funds for the crossover fight, McGregor says a deal could have potentially been reached. Any fight involving McGregor would have had to have had Dane White’s blessing, though he probably would have signed off on it if the deal had any chance of being struck.

“Right now, I have Floyd running around the Showtime [Network] offices gathering my money. That’s what he’s doing,” McGregor said on Aug. 15. “He’s running around the Showtime offices, begging those executives to come up with the $100 million cash he needs to fight me. As soon as he gets my money, we can fight.”
