Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni has been arrested for homicide in Mexico following the death of his girlfriend Sunday, according to multiple reports.
According to Mexican news site Tribuna De La Bahīa, the 46-year-old Baroni told police he and his girlfriend got into a heated argument in a hotel room after she admitted to sleeping with another man. He is accused of throwing her into the shower, causing fatal head trauma.
The police report noted that Baroni appeared to be under the influence of marijuana and alcohol when they arrived. The former pro fighter claimed his girlfriend, identified only as Poala, hit her head and slipped getting into the shower, then hit her head again when she fell down.
Police arrested Baroni for homicide, and he is being held in Valle de Banderas.
Baroni competed in UFC from 2001 to 2012 as a middleweight and welterweight. Nicknamed the “New York Bad A–,” he posted a record of 15-18.
The report comes just two days after news surfaced that UFC President Dana White and his wife Anne White were involved in an ugly altercation in Cabo, Mexico on New Year’s Eve. Video obtained by TMZ shows Anne slapping her husband. The UFC president responded by hitting her back, then seemingly pushing her to the ground.
Anne explained the situation to TMZ.
“Dana and I have been married for almost 30 years. … Unfortunately, we were both drinking too much on New Year’s Eve and things got out of control, on both sides,” she said. “We’ve talked this through as a family and apologized to each other. I just hope people will respect our privacy for the sake of our kids,” said Anne White.”
