The first nine fights at UFC Vegas 107 at the UFC Apex on Saturday night went off without a hitch. But unfortunately, the main event many were looking forward to was ultimately cancelled due to a serious medical concern for one of the fighters involved.
On paper, the main event matchup between No. 4-ranked Erin Blanchfield and No. 5-ranked Maycee Barber profiled to be one of the most entertaining fights of the night, considering both are up-and-coming stars on the rise with potential title hopes on their mind.
Unfortunately, an unforeseen and shocking situation occurred just minutes before both fighters were set to walk out to the octagon.
Just as Maycee Barber’s music was set to play, it was reported by the UFC broadcast team that Barber “wasn’t prepared to fight”, citing an apparent medical reason for why she couldn’t take part in the fight.
After a brief cut to commercial break, the UFC broadcast team announced in a follow-up update on the situation that the fight had officially been cancelled due to the medical concerns of Barber, as she was not cleared to fight.
We received some further information about Barber’s condition from Erin Blanchfield, the woman she was set to fight, telling UFC reporter Megan Olivi that she was told that Barber had suffered a seizure in the locker room ahead of the fight.
Obviously, first and foremost, hopefully Barber is okay and has a speedy recovery. But it is truly unfortunate for both fighters not to be able to show off their skills at the highest level against one another
