The Phoenix Suns were one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA last season. The Suns boasted talent at the top of the roster with names that included Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
However, despite being so talented (and expensive), the Suns failed to even make the NBA play-in tournament. As a result, major changes were due for the organization this offseason.
The first major domino to fall was the trade of Durant to the Houston Rockets. Now, another major roster move has been made, according to one prominent league insider.
“BREAKING: Three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal has agreed to a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns and plans to join the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $11 million deal with a player option after clearing waivers, Mark Bartelstein of (Priority Sports),” reported Shams Charania on Wednesday.
Charania then provided context on what this move means for the Suns.
“This now gives the Suns increased team-building flexibility by taking them out of the first and second aprons, providing access to more tradeable draft picks in the future, and opening up part of the mid-level exception to utilize.”
Fans reacted to the shocking news on social media.
“Clippers lowkey the favorites out of the west but yall ain’t ready for that convo yet,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Clippers gonna lose in 1st round and get so confused,” one fan added.
“There it is, Bradley Beal is officially off of the Suns. Honestly love the fit on the Clippers, Beal was an underrated defender last year in isolation defense. Hopefully he can bounce back in a new environment,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Clippers can make a deep run in the West next season.
