It’s been an incredible week for Brooklyn Nets star guard Cam Thomas as he’s had several breakout performances and made NBA history when he was thrust into a bigger role after the team traded star guard Kyrie Irving. But now he’s in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, and it’s going to cost him financially.

After a win over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night, Cam Thomas made an insensitive, anti-gay remark during a postgame interview alongside teammate Spencer Dinwiddie. And he has since been fined $40,000 by the NBA for using “derogatory and disparaging language,” according to Fox News.

“We may not be the best trade package, but we’re the best-looking. And the Nets needed some help in that department,” Dinwiddie said in the postgame interview.

“We already had good-looking guys, no homo,” Thomas replied.

While Thomas may not have seen anything wrong with the comments, TNT reporter Jared Greenberg certainly realized the issue.

“All right, I’m sure the league office will enjoy that one,” Greenberg said.

Thomas did apologize for his comments on Twitter.

“I want to apologize for the insensitive word I used in the post-game interview,” Thomas said in a tweet. “I was excited about the win and was being playful. I definitely didn’t intend to offend anyone, but realize that I probably did. My apologies again. Much love.”
