NBA fans were heartbroken and devastated when news broke Tuesday night that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard suffered a deep vein thrombosis in his right calf. ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news.
“Milwaukee Bucks: Damian Lillard has sustained a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) in his right calf. Lillard is on blood-thinning medication, which has stabilized the blood clot, and will continue with regular testing. He is out indefinite period.”
Lillard then spoke to league insider Chirs Haynes about the diagnosis and what he’d be prioritizing moving forward.
“It’s unfortunate that something outside of my control would come up. Along with the Bucks’ medical staff, our priorities are to protect my health and safety. As much as I love basketball, I need to be there for my kids and my family.
“I’m grateful the Bucks acted quickly on this. They’ve been supportive and proactive throughout this process. I look forward to moving past this and continuing my career.”
Fans reacted to Lillard’s statement on social media.
“Haven’t played Cleveland in the playoffs for a hot minute but the calves still keep taking the Bucks out smh,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Blood thinners daily should make this a one time thing. Might take some time to get his stamina back up though unfortunately,” someone else added.
“Life threatening man he gotta take care of himself,” someone else wrote.
Hopefully, Lillard is able to make a full recovery ahead of schedule.
