Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is a very, very good basketball player. Off the court, he’s evidently just as good of a person.
Lillard was at his old high school, Oakland High, promoting the launch of his new shoe, The Dame 3. Showcasing the shoe wasn’t the only celebration on the menu, as Lillard brought out a handful of talented hip hop aritsts to perform for students, including Fetty Wap, DJ ESCO and Lil Uzi Vert.

On top of the show, Lillard had his Oakland High jersey retired.
And shout out to Oakland High for retiring my jersey yesterday. Y'all helped mold me into the man that I am today. #ALLRISE pic.twitter.com/OEk6paTUwp

Lillard also partnered up with Adidas to remodel multiple aspects of Oakland High. A new music studio was built with JBL. I wonder if Lillard will spit a few bars on the new setup.

Oakland High’s gym and weight room was also remodeled.

Discussing the day with Mike Richman of the Oregonian, Lillard admitted with his considerable fame and wealth, it’s his responsibility to give back to the community which helped shape him today.
I feel like being in my position it’s my job to kind of do things like this,” he said. “You can’t do it all the time. But just to let them know that it’s better things out there. To see an example that comes from the same city as you, same high school and can come and share a big moment with you.”
The Oakland native clearly cares about his community and by giving back, he’s going to inspire plenty of students to pursue their hopes and dreams. Now, some have more resources to do so. Dame is the best.
