damian lillard

We already knew Damian Lillard was good at rapping for a basketball player. But now it’s starting to seem like he’s also good at rapping for a rapper.

On Wednesday morning, the Trail Blazers point guard, aka Dame D.O.L.L.A. released a new song called ‘Talk to Em,” and according to TMZ, some “major labels” are interested in signing him to a deal. Lillard’s agent Aaron Goodwin told TMZ they’ll worry about that soon enough.

“We’ve put it on hold until the summer,” Goodwin says … “We will explore those options versus starting his own label. A distribution partner is really what’s needed.”

Lillard should have no shortage of options in his music career, given his fame and the fact that, unlike most NBA players who try their hand at rapping (*cough* Shaq, *cough* Ron Artest), he’s pretty talented. We were impressed with his MLK-Day single “Bigger Than Us” and “Talk to Em” is just as good. Take a listen:

Dame D.O.L.L.A. has socially responsible bars…

They say the loyal don’t budge and real Gs move in silence
And thugs really in it not the ones promoting violence
I know a couple in it that’s trying to get up out it
And it’s all street knowledge they ain’t get to go to college

boasts …

I hardly ever brag, and hardly ever sag
But tonight my pants low and 200 on my dash
I ain’t make it this far to say I made it this far
Cause when I’m close to par that’s when I gotta raise the bar

and even some wordplay (salt, Utah, get it?)…

Raised in East Oakland I’m a product of that
Made to survive anywhere can’t get more polished than that
They glorifying goofball I’m salty as Utah
When you real they uncomfortable plotting for you to fall

Clearly Lillard’s talents go beyond rapping about dropping dimes in those over-aired State Farm commercials.
