Woody Paige has seen a lot of Denver Nuggets losses over the years.
The longtime Denver sports columnist has been covering the city’s professional sports franchises since the 1970s, so he knows a thing or two about a thing or two.
While the franchise began as an ABA franchise in 1967, it joined the NBA in 1976. In the decades since then, the Nuggets have had a lot of bad seasons and memorably terrible losses.
However, despite playing with a roster that won the NBA Title last year, Paige doesn’t remember ever seeing a performance as bad as the one that led to Denver’s 106-80 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of their playoff series on Monday.

“Remember that Indiana Jones movie Temple of Doom where the villain would reach in and grab a person’s heart and pull it out? That’s exactly what the Timberwolves did to the Nuggets last night,” said Paige on Tuesday’s Around the Horn. “I think that the Nuggets, NBA champions, were all chumps last night. That was the worst performance that I’ve seen in covering the Nuggets since 1974.”
That’s a brutal breakdown of the Nuggets’ performance, but it’s hard to say anything good about the way Denver has played against Minnesota so far.
