It seems like we have heard this many times before, Derrick Rose is out with a serious injury.

The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Rose has to get surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee and has to be out for the rest of the NBA season. Rose is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

This is the latest in Rose’s history of injury issues. The 2011 MVP has been incredibly unlucky with injuries since that great season. When he was on the Bulls, Rose tore his ACL during the 2011-12 playoffs and missed the entire 2012-13 season despite being cleared to play a couple months before that. Then when Rose tried to come back that next season, he tore his right meniscus after a couple months and missed the rest of the season.

Now on the Knicks, Rose now has to undergo another knee surgery. Even though Rose is 28, the Knicks have to wonder whether or not Rose is worth all this if he keeps getting hurt. Granted, it’s the Knicks and you can’t really trust them to make a sound and reasonable decision but exactly how beneficial is it when you’re paying someone who’s healthy at best half the time $21 million a year?

Derrick Rose is an extremely talented player but his health has to be considered. Rose could be the best player in history but he’s no good injured. Maybe the Knicks want to keep Rose around since he’s a big name with talent (wouldn’t be shocked) but I’m pretty sure that $21 million could be spent with a talented star who can remain healthy.
