ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday that the Detroit Pistons have dismissed head coach Monty Williams.
“After one season, the Detroit Pistons have dismissed coach Monty Williams — who leaves with five years and $65M-plus left on his deal. New President Trajan Langdon will move to make his own coaching hire now,” wrote Woj.

Money is apparently not a problem for the Pistons who will have to pay Williams $65 million and hire another head coach, who will have a salary of his own.
The once-proud organization and three-time NBA champions have finished dead last in the league the last. two seasons, including a dismal 14-68 record this year.
According to the Detriot Free Press, the Pistons fell behind the competition, ripping off an embarrassing and historic 28-game losing streak, while questions persisted about Williams’ use of players like Jaden Ivey. They say there was an organization meeting in January around Money’s abilities and the lack of progress the team showed as the season went on.
If nothing else, the fact that Detroit is willing to eat that contract shows just how serious they are about turning the franchise around and winning sooner than later. Let the search for a new head coach begin.
