The New York Knicks pulled off a shocking 29-point comeback over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night to win Game 3 of the NBA Finals and take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. Naturally, the win led to some raucous celebration in the New York City streets, but not all fans were peaceful.
In the aftermath of the thrilling game, a video has now gone viral on social media showing Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama getting struck in the head by an egg thrown by a fan as he walked into the team hotel. Needless to say, the video has sparked significant outrage in the sports world.
Celebrations Have Turned Violent
Throughout the NBA Finals, Knicks fans have been understandably excited at the team’s dominance, but the celebration in the city has started to turn violent at times.
Following Friday night’s Game 2 victory, for example, the New York City Police Department said that 17 people were arrested and charged outside of the Knicks’ watch party at Madison Square Garden. During the incident, a New York City Police Officer was assaulted.
Additionally, several viral videos have made rounds on social media showing Knicks fans in the city harassing, assaulting, and attacking San Antonio Spurs fans, resulting in criticism from actor and Knicks fan Ben Stiller as well as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“Being a Knick fan doesn’t mean being disrespectful to Spurs fans in any way…we get caught up during the games but we gotta show respect to our fellow humans…” Stiller wrote in a post on X.
“Couldn’t agree more. We’ll win this series on the court (even if the refs refuse to call a flagrant on Wemby), not by targeting, harassing, or attacking Spurs fans. Knicks in 5,” Mamdani added.
Wembanyama Struck With Egg
Unfortunately, despite the pleas from Stiller and Mamdani, some Knicks fans were once again violent after the Game 4 win on Wednesday night. This time, however, someone struck Wembanyama in the head with an egg.
As the San Antonio Spurs superstar was walking into the team hotel following Wednesday night’s loss, an egg was thrown at him from the crowd, striking him in the head and bursting open.

Wembanyama was quickly ushered into the team hotel by security after the incident.
Fans Express Outrage
As the video went viral on social media, fans quickly expressed outrage at the incident.
“Absolute trash behavior!” one fan wrote in a post on X.
“Players all in their early twenties btw. Literally babies. Knicks fans are gross,” someone else added.
“We are lost as a country!” someone else wrote.
“I hope Knicks lose next 3 games,” another commented.
“Disgusting behavior,” another fan wrote.
Needless to say, this was far from classy behavior.
