While it’s been speculated to be happening for months, ESPN has officially made the decision to move on from Doris Burke in her capacity as a game analyst in the network’s top broadcast team, according to Awful Announcing.

Burke’s spot will be replaced by Tim Legler, although the news that she’s finished calling the NBA Finals won’t come as much of a surprise to Burke. Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported just before the 2025 NBA Finals that Burke’s spot on the team was far from guaranteed.

After the report, Burke received public support from many, including Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle publicly criticizing the timing of the ESPN leak, and Jefferson wearing a t-shirt that read “my favorite broadcaster is Doris Burke” during an appearance on ESPN’s broadcast of the Women’s College World Series during the Finals.

However, ESPN has decided to move forward with the demotion. Jefferson and Mike Breen will stay on, where they’ll await Legler’s arrival.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“The people have spoken and ESPN finally listened,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Good. Legler is one of the best in the business. Jay Bilas needs to do NBA broadcast permanently as well,” one fan added.

“Amazing. Never think your voice isn’t heard,” added another fan.

It’ll be interesting to see how Legler does in Burke’s place.
