Of all the athletes who have supported the students at Stoneman Douglas High School, Dwyane Wade has taken things to a new level. Ever since the shooting nearly a month ago that killed 17 people, Wade has since worn Stoneman Douglas shoes, had given a special jersey to the family of one of his fans who had been killed and supported the students in their effort for stricter gun control measures in the United States.
Today, in Stoneman Douglas High School’s first day back in school since the shooting, Wade made a surprise visit to Parkland to let students know how he felt about them and how their reaction to such a terrible tragedy has inspired Wade.

This was certainly a much appreciated gesture from Wade and gladly returned the gesture to the Heat star.

This…things like this, right here…are why South Florida welcomed Dwyane Wade back with open arms. The basketball is great, of course. This? Visiting Douglas on the first full day of classes since that horrible day? This is amazing. https://t.co/C1mHDNpI8l

Wade himself tweeted about his visit and was looking forward to working with the students in the future.
I just had a great conversation with some of the students at Stoneman Douglas High School about some important/impactful things that they have planned. I’m looking forward to being more involved in the change that they WILL create. #MSDStrong 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Our conversation about bridging the gap between the students from Parkland, Florida and Chicago was really impressive. These young adults GET IT. They understand the power of their voices for the ones that often go unheard!

In a related story, current Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos visited Parkland and that didn’t go as well as Wade’s visit.
