I’ll be honest: I really missed basketball, mostly thanks to highlights like this one.

With the Rockets trailing by 2 late in Philadelphia, Houston decided to go for three and the win. As the seconds ticked away, James Harden drove left to the corner, finding Eric Gordon, who, well, did this:

Buzzer beaters are so, so good.

And from the near baseline, where you can really see what Gordon managed to do with limited time and less real estate:

The Rockets are going to be without Chris Paul for some time thanks to a knee issue, but they were a good-to-great team last year without Paul. Eric Gordon won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year last season for a reason; he remains one of the league’s more underrated guards, and has proven a perfect fit in the Mike D’Antoni system.

It’s a tough loss for the young Sixers, who led most of the game, but this is the kind of thing that happens when you’re learning how to win. And sometimes you can do just about everything right and still end up on the wrong end of a great play.
