The Denver Nuggets expected to compete for an NBA title this year after pairing three-time MVP winner Nikola Jokic with one-time winner of the award and the NBA record holder for triple-doubles, Russell Westbrook.
Unfortunately for the Nuggets, the season has been underwhelming, given those expectations. The Nuggets are sitting at fourth in the Western Conference with a record of 47-32, far behind the first place Oklahoma City Thunder, who are sporting a record of 64-14.
Now, heads are starting to roll, according to one prominent league insider.
“BREAKING: The Denver Nuggets have fired coach Michael Malone, sources tell ESPN,” reported ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday afternoon.
Fans reacted to the shocking news on social media.
“The winner of the Flagg sweepstakes should fire its coach and send a blank check to Malone that night,” one fan wrote on Twiter.
“there’s people getting fired at times in the season where people have never gotten fired recession indicator,” another fan added.
“That’s what he gets for *checks notes* correctly arguing against his front office letting key players walk every year until they ran out of enough of them to fill out a rotation!!’ one fan added sarcastically.
It’ll be interesting to see where Malone lands, as he shouldn’t be unemployed for long.
