Talk about taking one for the team.

Goran Dragic of the Miami Heat took an elbow shot to the face while trying to contest a shot by DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors on Thursday evening in Game 2 of their second-round matchup north of the border.

The shot busted open Dragic’s mouth so bad he was forced to leave the game to get eight stitches. To add insult to injury, Dragic was called for the blocking foul on the play.

Just by looking at the replay alone, you can tell Dragic was not feeling so hot following the collision. That is understandable given that the Heat reported Dragic had one of his bottom teeth go through his lip, leading to three stitches on the inside and five more on the outside before he came back into the game.

That’s right. Dragic returned to the game, and he played a key role in at least sending the second game of the series to overtime.

That’s not just tough, that’s hockey player tough. Of course, Dragic has a knack for taking hard hits on the court. Back in December, he actually lost a tooth on the court in a game against the Atlanta Hawks. He did it again in April in a game against the Detroit Pistons, after which he video bombed a postgame interview.

Dragic scored 20 points in the losing effort on Thursday. The series now shifts down south to Miami for Game 3 on Saturday with the series tied one game apiece.
