The Memphis Grizzlies appear destined to make the postseason in the Western Conference, currently sitting in a tie for the fourth seed in the conference. Despite this, the organization made a shocking move when it came to head coach Taylor Jenkins on Friday.

Jenkins has had an up-and-down tenure in Memphis, with multiple 50-win seasons under his belt, but also numerous years where the organization has missed out on the postseason.

This season has been an overwhelming positive for Jenkins, with his team currently sitting at 44-29 on the year, firmly putting them in the mix to make some noise in the postseason.

However, Jenkins was shockingly let go by the organization on Friday, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

You rarely ever see an NBA team, or a team in any sport for that matter, part ways with a coach that is set to head into the postseason with his team. So naturally, fans and media members alike were left shaking their heads on social media about this shocking decision by the Grizzlies to let Jenkins go.

It remains to be seen if there were other factors at play in the Grizzlies’ decision to part ways with Jenkins. But on paper, this move is certainly one of the more shocking decisions from an NBA franchise that we have seen in quite some time.
