Never say that J.R. Smith isn’t a good teammate. After fellow Cleveland Cavaliers’ star Kevin Love took a ball to the face in the middle of warmups before their game against the Boston Celtics Wednesday, Smith caught Love, laid him down on the ground and started giving him chest compressions:
Yeah, that probably was going a little far, and it’s definitely not following first aid protocols (you check airway and breathing before starting compressions, J.R.!), but it certainly made for a hilarious moment. That was especially the case with ESPN analysts Chauncey Billups and Jalen Rose calmly talking about how well Smith had been playing on the split screen. Michelle Beadle seems to be the only one who caught what happened here, and she lets out a laugh partway through the clip.
Here’s a closeup of Love getting hit in the face:

And a still shot:
It seems Love is doing all right. Through 10 minutes of the Cavaliers-Celtics game, he had four points and eight rebounds. Perhaps we can credit Smith’s prompt medical attention for that. It’s good to know he’s there to help when a teammate takes one in the face. But hey, Love might want to be more careful with his face if he hopes to retain his title as the sexiest member of the Cavaliers.
