Sooner or later, it seems as though the NBA is going to expand and put a team back in Seattle. If and when that happens, former NBA player Jamal Crawford wants to be a part of that.

While Crawford is best known for a 20-year NBA career that spanned nine different franchises and included three NBA Sixth Man of the Year awards, Jamal was born and raised in Seattle, WA, having attended Rainier Beach High School and winning a state championship there.

While the local product never got to play for the Seattle SuperSonics, who left to become the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008, he discussed the importance of Seattle basketball and how he’d love to be involved in Seattle’s NBA future in a recent “Seattle Legends featuring Jamal Crawford” episode of Audacy’s 2400Sports’ Hey Mayne podcast.

“I would love to play a role of some sort in whatever Seattle, the Sonics came back,” Crawford said “I’m one of the ones who truly love our city, who truly embody what it’s about. I would love to. I’d be honored to.

“I would love to be a part. Just the history and the connection with the city. I would love to be a part of the Sonics.”

Crawford would probably have some stiff competition to be part of the ownership team. Former Sonics star Shawn Kemp has kept his relationship with the city steady in recent years. But however it shakes out, it’ll be a happy day for Crawford and other Seattleites when they’ve got an NBA team to root for once more, whether they’re called the Sonics or something else.
