The NBA world got some surprising and concerning news earlier this week when it was revealed that Minnesota Timberwolves‘ star big man was hospitalized due to a brutal throat infection that gave him trouble breathing.

According to NBA reporter Jon Krawczynski, the illness was so bad that the Towns lost a ton of weight in just a few days. With the illness coupled with an off-season workout plan, Towns is now down to just 231 pounds.

“Karl-Anthony Towns didn’t go into deep detail about what he’s been through, but said he only started walking again after his non-covid illness on Saturday. He’s down to 231 pounds. But says he feels good to be back out on the court and is ramping back up,”

Towns’ weight loss is particularly jarring because Krawczynski points out in a subsequent Tweet, the Timberwolves star typically weighs about 250 pounds.

The scary news certainly caught the attention of the NBA world, which offered its concern and shock at Towns’ illness and his massive weight loss.

It’s worth noting that Towns was also in the process of slimming down with an off-season workout plan. However, the illness certainly led to the NBA star shedding quite a lot more weight than he had hoped. At the end of the day, it’s just good to see him healthy after the health scare.
