The Brooklyn Nets as we know them appear to be on the verge of collapse, with star forward Kevin Durant requesting a trade from the franchise earlier this week.

This comes after months of no contact between Durant and the Nets front office, which should have been a sign of things to come in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn has said that they will honor his request and trade Durant. To this point, the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat are the teams that are reported to be on Durant’s ideal list of destinations. However the Nets are likely looking for the best possible trade package in return, and that may come from a familiar destination for Durant.

NBA insider Marc Spears discussed the teams targeting Durant on ESPN Radio on Sunday and said that the Golden State Warriors may be interested in trading for Durant.

“The one team I’m telling you to keep an eye on is the Golden State Warriors,” said Spears. “Golden State could have the best package for both parties. Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, All-Star Andrew Wiggins, and former No. 2 pick James Wiseman.”

Durant played with the Warriors from 2016-2018 and was able to help them capture two of their four championships over the last eight years

Things ended poorly between the team and him, with Durant and Draymond Green’s relationship appearing to fall apart midway through the 2018 season.

However, if both sides can agree to leave the past behind them, the Warriors could be looking like one of the best teams in NBA history yet again with Durant.

Golden State could certainly offer a great package of young players for Brooklyn, but it remains to be seen whether Durant would be willing to play there.

At this point, it feels like pure speculation, but it would certainly be huge if Golden State were able to bring Durant back.

It will depend on whether or not the Nets are honoring Durant’s preferences when looking for a trade, but if they want to get the best package they possibly can, it could be coming from Golden State.
