While most Los Angeles Lakers fans seem to be excited about UConn head coach Dan Hurley potentially becoming their next head coach, “Undisputed” host Keyshawn Johnson is not among those excited about the potential hire.
Johnson thinks that even though Hurley has won back-to-back national championships with the Huskies, he is not a fit for the Lakers head coaching position because he hasn’t won a championship on the NBA level.
“He’d be a good candidate, not great. That’s only because he’s not coming from an NBA Championship-level,” he said.

“A great hire is could you get an Erik Spoelstra, or a Ty Luke that becomes a great hire, this is a good stabilize, potential hire for now and the future as he grows into the position as he’s learning how to coach in the NBA.”
Later, Johnson would praise Hurley for all his accomplishments and said it was a good hire for the Lakers. Johnson hasn’t exactly been supportive of any of the Lakers’ coaching candidates, especially JJ Redick mainly because Redick doesn’t have the coaching experience.
But even as Hurley is the Lakers’ top candidate right now, it still doesn’t seem to be enough for Johnson who doesn’t see this as a home run hire, while others in the industry who cover the NBA regularly think this hire, if the Lakers could pull this off, would shake up the NBA.
