The Lakers do not have fake rookies "Ned Stark" and "Shawn Carter."

The Lakers are loaded with young talent. After drafting Brandon Ingram with the No. 2 pick last year, they added rookies Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart to their young core this offseason.

Not among that young core are Shawn Carter and Ned Stark, who are definitely not basketball prospects. Shawn Carter is Jay-Z’s birth name, and Ned Stark is a fictional Game of Thrones character played by Sean Bean. But some Lakers’ fans were totally clueless when a Sacramento Kings’ staffer started interviewing them about the fake rookies.

Whoops. So much for being die-hard fans. But at the same time, I can’t imagine many fans know their summer league roster top to bottom. And there’s always the temptation to agree with what an interviewer asks, and rational “Those aren’t our rookies” responses may have happened but not been shown.

Let’s chalk it up to Lakers’ fans recently coming out of an extended hibernation following three straight seasons without surpassing 30 wins. And at least it gave us a funny video.
