The New York Knicks had their best postseason run in years this season, making it to the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs before being eliminated by the Miami Heat. Despite this, general manager Scott Perry made the shocking decision to part ways with the organization on Tuesday night.

Perry has been with the organization since the 2017-18 season and obviously played a big role in bringing in their current core, including star point guard Jalen Brunson last offseason.

SNY’s Ian Begley broke the news on Wednesday, revealing that Perry wanted to “explore other options” once his contract officially expires this summer.

It is certainly a surprising decision considering their relative success this offseason. While they didn’t achieve their goal of an NBA championship, it marks the first time that they made the second round of the postseason since the 2012-13 season.

While most see Perry’s tenure with the organization as a positive one overall, it did come with some very clear failures. They ultimately failed to bring in any superstars during his tenure, despite reports over the years that the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant had an interest in signing with the Knicks in free agency.

It will certainly be interesting to see where the Knicks go from here. Whoever ends up taking the GM role will have to find a way to get the Knicks over the hump and become serious NBA title contenders.
