When you’re battling in the playoffs of any sport, fraternizing with the enemy team isn’t a good look. Apparently that last part was the only thing stopping Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry from getting together with Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue to take in some Western Conference finals action.

Lue said before Game 2 of the Cavaliers-Raptors series that his protege Lowry thought about catching the game together before thinking better of it.

Lowry is right, it certainly “wouldn’t look right” for two competitors to be buddying up with some popcorn and the Western Conference finals while in the middle of their own series with an NBA finals berth on the line. Especially when the margin of victory in Game 1 was 31 points.

For once, an athlete thinking of his image actually was also the right thing to do.

As for why this would’ve even been a possibility in the first place, Lue has long been a mentor and close figure in Lowry’s life.

When Lowry entered the NBA in 2006, Lue saw his potential and took him under his wing. Now Lowry and his Raptors are looking to not get embarrassed in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals in a day. Had they gone through with it, Lowry and Lue would have provided material for sports radio hot takes for days on end on both sides of the border.
