Cooper nearly made the most of his time in the sun, but couldn't quite come through in the end. Cooper, a young Los Angeles Lakers fan, showboated before trying to win an in-game contest. The result was hilarious.

One young Los Angeles Lakers fan learned a valuable lesson on Friday night. If you’re going to be cocky, you better back it up.

During one of the breaks in Game 6 against the Memphis Grizzlies, a Lakers fan named Cooper was called to the court for a contest. His task? Score 10 points in 30 seconds. Points are earned as follows. A shot from under the hoop is 10 points, the free-throw line is three points and the three-point line is 10. It’s not a complete freebie but, as long as a contestant takes the time allotted, a win should be achievable.

Cooper, though, went the other way. When asked if he was ready, he responded boldly, saying “I’m born ready.” Only, Cooper didn’t start shooting when the clock started. Instead, he put the ball down and started hyping the crowd up. He channeled his inner-1980s Hulk Hogan, cupping his ears, all while the music played, the Laker Girls danced, the time ticked away and the ball remained on the floor.

His strategy quickly became clear. Rather than try to accrue points with a high quantity of shots, Cooper was going to put all of his eggs in one basket, taking a 10-point shot at the buzzer. Cooper had all the hubris of Casey at the Bat. And unfortunately for Cooper, he had the same level of success.

With three seconds left, he finally picked the ball back up. Then, with one second remaining, he took the shot. It promptly bounced off of the rim and fell to the floor.

NBA fans had no trouble finding (and creating) humor from this situation.
