LaVar Ball

There are plenty of reasons why people dislike LaVar Ball, the world’s nuttiest and most outspoken sports dad. But now there’s a heartwarming reason to like him.

Earlier this week, Ball lured his long-time handyman, Felipe, to a local car dealership, where he surprised him with a brand new car: a 2017 Toyota Tundra.

Ball told ESPN’s Myron Medcalf that Felipe has worked for his family for nearly 15 years. Felipe had been having trouble going to and from work because of transmission issues with his car. But even with the new truck, he won’t have to worry about making to that job. Ball also gave him a new full-time gig as property manager for Big Baller Brand.

Ball said he didn’t do any of this to improve his public image or get more attention to keep the Big Baller Brand marketing machine churning. He just wanted to take care of someone close to him:

“It’s just something I did for him,” Ball told ESPN.com. “He’s been working a long time trying to make ends meet. That car ain’t gonna get him from place to place. Now he has a car that can get him from Point A to Point B.”

[…]

“It’s just who I am,” said Ball, who launched a family reality show, “Ball in the Family,” on Facebook Watch last month. “He didn’t know I was going to do it for him.”

We’ve seen how much LaVar loves attention, but we also know how highly he values family and his inner circle. You can tell by Felipe’s reaction this gesture was greatly appreciated.
