Ever since he returned to Cleveland a couple years ago, LeBron James has been featured on a massive banner downtown doing his typical pregame routine. That banner will look a little different sooner rather than later.

After trailing the Golden State Warriors 3-1 in the NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers stormed back to win the title and deliver on LeBron’s promise to bring a championship home for the first title in 52 years for Cleveland.

With the title defense set to begin soon, LeBron’s big downtown banner is getting a championship upgrade.

That’s right – the 10-story high mural is being removed so a Larry O’Brien Trophy can be added. The trophy will be added in the form of a gold patch on the back of LeBron’s uniform.

The massive updated banner is expected to be installed by Friday, October 21st, four days before the Cavaliers open up the 2016-2017 season against the New York Knicks on the 25th. Before the game against the Knicks, the team will be given their rings and the championship banner will be raised inside of Quicken Loans Arena.

Oddly enough, this is the second time in recent months taking down the banner has become a storyline. During the Republican National Convention this summer, the banner was nearly taken down. However, it stayed up and the company responsible for it made a $150,000 donation to the LeBron James Family Foundation.
