LeBron James post-dunk

The NBA Finals are often a star-studded affair, and that was particularly obvious in Game One on Thursday night. Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward LeBron James threw down a monster dunk, which NBA on ABC play-by-play man Mike Breen announced normally, but then analyst Jeff Van Gundy started talking about how pop star Rihanna walked in front of him:

Breen says “Tristan Thompson finds James! A lot of thunderous dunks here in the opening period.” Van Gundy then chimes in with “I don’t know about this, but Rihanna just walked in front of me. Are you kidding me!” Breen laughs and responds “How you doing, man? Stay with the game!” and Mark Jackson chimes in with “LeBron makes a spectacular play like this, and that’s what you’re doing?” and Van Gundy finishes the clip with “Yeah! What a play!”

That’s quite the funny moment, and it shows how easy it is for these broadcasts to momentarily turn away from the game. There’s a lot going on at a NBA Finals matchup, and plenty of celebrities walking around. The interesting thing here is how much Breen and Jackson mock Van Gundy for paying attention to Rihanna rather than the game. It certainly made for some humor during Game One.

  1. I’m sick of JVG. Like he never saw a celebrity at a NBA finals game before.
