With the Miami Heat floundering through the NBA season, the team is willing to move players in hopes of rebuilding. One trade piece of interest is Goran Dragic, and the Orlando Magic reportedly have some great interest in acquiring him.

The Magic reportedly have offered to send Nikola Vucevic and a first-round draft pick in exchange for Dragic, but the Heat were not willing to bite on such an offer. The Magic have a glutton of big men on the roster, so moving on in exchange for another player that can help them out on the court makes sense. The problem is the Heat are satisfied with their center position with Hassan Whiteside.

The addition of a first round draft picks seems pretty nice too under normal circumstances, but the Magic are still within reach of grabbing one of the last available playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, which would take them out of the lottery. A mid-first round draft pick isn’t necessarily a guarantee for an NBA team the way it may be in other sports, so the allure of getting Orlando’s first-round draft pick may not be all that attractive even for the Heat, although having two first round picks is a pretty good way to get a rebuild started, even if a second first round pick is used as a trade piece.

What the Heat end up doing with Vucevic will be one of the moves followed closely around NBA circles, but there is no guarantee Miami will end up moving him.
