The Dallas Mavericks have finally honored Dirk Nowitzki the proper way, by giving the seven-foot German his own burger.

Dirk and executive chef Mark Mabry collaborated in making The Dirkburger. It actually sounds pretty good as its topped with bacon onion marmalade, arugula, mustard horseradish aioli, jalapeno beer cheese and is served on a Bavarian pretzel bun. Chef Dirk described the burger as a “little sour, a little spicy.”

Dirk admitted in the video he initially wanted a turkey burger, as he usually doesn’t eat burgers during the season.

“They asked me what I wanted on my burger, and I’m a healthy guy, so I said I’d love a turkey burger, but they told me nobody eats that stuff but me, so we actually changed it. This is for the fans.”

Classic Dirk move. He’s all about pleasing the fans.

Dirk isn’t the only Mavericks forward with a burger, as Justin Anderson helped in the creation of the “Just-in-Time” Burger, which is topped with deviled egg aioli, bacon, and provolone served on Texas Toast. Look at how intently Anderson stares at Dirk when he tries the new creation.

The 37-year-old may never again eat the burger that shares his namesake, but it doesn’t mean the burger isn’t an honor. The burger is likely the first way the Mavericks plan to honor the legendary power forward in the coming years.

If nothing else, the Dirkburger gives Nowitzki a new option when he doesn’t feel like bringing a plate of leftovers from home to the arena.
