Nico Harrison’s tenure as GM of the Dallas Mavericks has been controversial from start to finish. Hired in 2021 after a long career at Nike, he was expected to steer the franchise into a new era of stability and star-driven success.
Instead, his time in Dallas became defined by backlash, uneven results, and frustrated fans.
The most damaging move came in February 2025, when the Mavericks traded away their franchise player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster deal. What followed was a wave of criticism. Analysts called it “one of the most shocking trades in NBA history,” and fans began chanting “Fire Nico” at home games.
As the Mavericks stumbled to a 3-8 start in the 2025-26 season and tension inside the organization mounted, patience ran out. Reports described growing friction between Harrison and team ownership, and the fan base’s frustration reached a boiling point.
Now, with his firing official, supporters are demanding accountability for the decisions that defined his run. Many point to a pattern of questionable trades, inconsistent roster building, and an identity crisis that left the Mavericks searching for direction.
I’m not an extremist, but after he’s fired I almost genuinely believe Nico Harrison should be arrested
