Blake Griffin

A Lebron James-starring ‘Space Jam 2’ in development. It’s a predictable role for the Cavaliers star. The legend who starred in the original live-action/cartoon mashup, Michael Jordan, endorsed another athlete for the lead part: Blake Griffin.

At one of his basketball camps, the Chicago Bulls icon was asked who he’d pick to star in the sequel to the 1995 classic. He responded with Griffin.

The Los Angeles Clippers star is a bang-on choice for the role. Griffin is extremely funny, has the necessary goofy charisma a player would need to interact with Looney Tunes, and is seemingly game for any project. Griffin also has experience, starring in a Kia commercial with Marvin the Martian – a perfect audition for the part.

Can he act? The answer is yes. Griffin appeared in an episode of season three of Comedy Central’s Broad City, which is very NSFW, but gut-bustingly funny.

That’s not a knock against LeBron. The Cavs star showed he’s got acting chops in a decent-sized role in the Judd Apatow comedy, Trainwreck. But, LeBron is the safe choice. He’s justifiably earned the part on status.

Griffin, however, would bring something more to the role. He needs a silly vehicle to upstart his film career. LeBron wouldn’t bring much different than MJ, Griffin would elevate Space Jam 2 to something new and different.

I’m with MJ on this one.
