Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges will serve no jail time after pleading no contest to a felony domestic violence charge Thursday in Los Angeles.
As reported by ESPN’s Baxter Holmes, the 24-year-old forward was sentenced to three years of probation. Bridges also must go through 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling and parenting classes, do 100 hours of community service and undergo weekly narcotics testing. There is also a restitution hearing scheduled for January.
Bridges had stood accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend as their two children watched. He originally faced three felony charges stemming from the May incident, but two counts were dismissed. His no-contest plea signifies he accepts any punishment in the case, but is not admitting guilt.
Bridges, who led the Hornets in scoring with 20.2 points per game last season, now faces an uncertain NBA future. As a restricted free agent, the Hornets have the option to match any offer he receives and retain him. The NBA can still choose to suspend, fine, dismiss or disqualify Bridges from any further association with the league as a result of the no-contest plea.
The Charlotte Observer reports the Hornets have not disclosed their plans to respond to the development in Bridges’ case.
NBA fans had conflicting thoughts on Bridges’ punishment and his future.
The Bridges Saga arrives at a decision from a legal standpoint. It has not reached that same end as far as the Charlotte Hornets go. Their decision is now pending.
Hopefully, Miles Bridges never plays in a Charlotte Hornets jersey again.
