It’s been nearly two decades since the NBA brought a new franchise to the league, adding the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Hornets) ahead of the 2004 season. Now, it looks like the league is finally looking to expand once again, and an announcement could be coming in the coming months.

According to a report from Willie G Ramirez of the Associated Press, the NBA is preparing to announce two new expansion teams – one in Seattle and one in Las Vegas.

“Multiple sources have told me the NBA want to finally announce expansion to Las Vegas and Seattle during the Clippers’ two preseason games at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, on Sept. 30 and Oct. 3,” Ramirez Tweeted early Wednesday morning.

While Las Vegas would be a completely new destination for the NBA, Seattle has a long history with the NBA as the city was home to the Seattle SuperSonics before the franchise moved to Oklahoma City to become the Thunder ahead of the 2008 season.

Expansion rumors and speculation have been prevalent for years, and news that the league is finally moving towards making it a reality certainly got the NBA world talking.

There’s no official expansion timeline and the NBA has yet to confirm the news, but it’s definitely an exciting development in the NBA world.
