New York Knicks fan-favorite Jimmer Fredette’s days with the NBA club appear over, as ESPN is reporting that sources say the Knicks aren’t going to sign Fredette to another 10-day contract.

Thus ends a love affair between Fredette and the Madison Square Garden faithful, as his name was often chanted by fans in attendance during the four home games of his 10-day deal with the Knicks.

In his 10-day contract, Fredette played a grand total of five minutes and scored seven points. He also had three DNP’s (did not play) and appeared in just two total games.

Fredette became a sort-of cult hero after throwing down for four points in the span of 3:13 during a game on Tuesday, as the fans in attendance went nuts for him. He took it all in stride though, according to the ESPN.com report:

“I definitely have had a great time and appreciate the fan support, but at the same time, I don’t want to be a distraction, and don’t want that to be a distraction to anybody, none of my teammates, my coaches, myself. But I think we do a good job just focusing on the game and focusing on the court.”

In all likelihood, the former NBA Draft lottery pick is headed back to the Knicks D-League team — the Westchester Knicks. While there this season, Fredette averaged 21.8 points and 4.8 assists in 30 games.

Even if Fredette never sees a New York Knicks uniform again, at leas he’ll be in the record books for the foreseeable future:

For the Knicks, it appears the short-term future at point guard will be the oh-so-tantalizing tandem of Jose Calderon and Sasha Vujacic. Given losses in eight of the last 10 games, perhaps the Knicks would’ve been better off finding out if the 27-year-old Fredette had what it really took to make it at the highest level.

Alas, we may never know unless someone else is willing to take a chance on the guy in this upcoming offseason.
