One day after their season began with a 113-109 victory over the Orlando Magic, some unfortunate news about the Detroit Pistons organization was reported.
Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports reported on Thursday that Rob Murphy, who has been Detroit’s assistant general manager since June, “has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation following allegations of inappropriate workplace conduct with a female former employee, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.”
“The investigation is expected to conclude by early next week if not sooner, sources told Yahoo Sports,” Goodwill reported. ” Sources told Yahoo Sports Murphy has been away from the team for over a week, after the team was notified of allegations from a former employee who was let go earlier in the calendar year.”
Murphy, seen above as coach of Eastern Michigan University’s Basketball team, has been with the Pistons since March, 2021, when he was hired as general manager of the Motor City Cruise, Detroit’s G-League affiliate. In September, 2021, he became the Senior Director of Player Personnel for the Pistons and was moved up to assistant general manager in June.
This news comes not long after the Boston Celtics suspended their coach, Ime Udoka, for his relationship with a team staffer.
