For the first time in his illustrious NBA career, Klay Thompson will no longer be a member of the Golden State Warriors organization.
The two sides elected to part ways in a move that’s been coming for a long time. And while he and Steph Curry combined to be the greatest 3-point shooting duo in league history, all good things must end. The Splash Brothers’ relationship’s expiration date has been reached, as Thompson will officially depart from the Bay Area in what will likely be a facilitated sign-and-trade.
Despite never being the primary scorer on any of those Warriors teams, Thompson sits at an impressive sixth place on the NBA’s all-time three-pointer list, trailing only the likes of Curry and Ray Allen.
Thompson’s offensive firepower was historically potent, but injuries, including an ACL tear and a torn Achilles, have plagued him since 2019. While his recovery was crucial for the Warriors’ 2022 championship run, his age and injury history understandably limited his long-term contract prospects in Golden State.
But it hasn’t limited a list of suitors.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson has an early list of potential suitors. When NBA free agency officially begins, Thompson expects to have discussions with the Mavericks, Lakers, Clippers, and 76ers.
