One of the key members of the dominant Detroit Pistons teams of the mid-2000’s is pondering a comeback. Not Ben or Rasheed Wallace, but guard Richard “Rip” Hamilton, who has been working out in the hopes of attracting the eyes of an NBA team, according to CBS Sports.

With Ray Allen and Stephen Jackson thinking along those same lines thanks to a massive influx of cash for free agents, Hamilton is not the first former guard to mull over an NBA comeback. But his agent has put feelers out that should the 38-year old’s body hold up over the next month of workouts, he might actually attempt a full-on comeback.

“I’m giving myself thirty days where I am really hitting the gym.” Hamilton said. “I’m working on my game. I’m in the weight room. I’m running my two, three miles a day. And I’m trying to see if my body can hold up. If my body can hold up after these thirty days, I will be making a comeback.”

The man was one of the best shooters of his era, though that era was over a decade ago. In his last season with the Bulls back in 2013, he averaged a shade under 10 points a game in about 22 minutes of action, which isn’t bad by any stretch. If he hasn’t lost any of his touch, he could be a fairly good bench option for a team looking for veteran experience without losing much on the court performance.

“If I get the opportunity where I can come in and earn my minutes,” Hamilton said. “I think that I will be able to make an impact on someone’s NBA team.”

“I’m actually doing it for [my kids] and for myself, too, to get an opportunity to make one more run at it. And if there’s an opportunity, where I could go out and win another championship, I’m all for it.”

Could you be seeing Rip Hamilton on an NBA court near you come November? It certainly looks plausible.
