LOUISVILLE, KY – MARCH 08: Russ Smith #2 of the Louisville Cardinals waves to the crowd after leaving the game for the last time against the Connecticut Huskies at KFC YUM! Center on March 8, 2014 in Louisville, Kentucky. It was senior day and it was Smith’s last home game. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Russ Smith was a star point guard on the 2013 Louisville national championship team, and was an All-American for the Cardinals in 2014. He’s also played 27 NBA games over two seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans (2014-2015) and Memphis Grizzlies (2015).

Well, expect Smith to get an NBA opportunity again very soon, as he’s tearing up the D-League as a member of the Delaware 87ers (Philadelphia 76ers affiliate). The 24-year-old is averaging 27.9 points per game, and took things to another level on Wednesday night, when he dropped a D-League record 65 points (!) on the Canton Charge (Cleveland Cavailers affiliate).

Smith went 24-of-42 from the field, and 16-of-20 at the line, to get to the insane 65-point total. Check out the video highlights:

The previous D-League record was 61 points, and that was actually just set by former 87ers guard Jordan McRae in January.
